On the advanced search page, and really on the other pages as well, there should be a "License" criteria. I very much value the public domain and CC-BY and CC-BY-SA works in the IA ("works under a Free license") but its hard to find them wading thru so much content thats off-limits to me. It would be great to have a site-wide preference: Show works under the following license: (check all that apply).

I absolutely agree, and I know it's on the to-do list for people at the Archive, but unfortunately it hasn't happened yet :( Maybe soon. It's a little complicated because the license type isn't stored in all XML files right now.
